Spreading a Little Kindness Through Art

A painted rock, is sometimes called a kindness stone, its simply a rock that someone has taken and decorated.

I am sure everyone in Prestwick has stumbled upon a colourful, hand-painted stone, decorated by the fantastic Chris Rutter, one of Prestwick’s true gems! Chris has sprinkled positivity around Prestwick with her hand painted stones for young people and adults alike to find and enjoy for the last few years. These stones have sparked joy, friendly competition and brighten up peoples entire days.

The 14th Ayrshire Beaver Scouts (Prestwick) were lucky enough to have Chris come and do a master class with them. The young Beavers had to go and scavenge Prestwick Beach for the right size of flat stones or slates ready to listen to Chris about how best to decorate their stones for the Easter stone hunt.

As you can see from the photos it may have got a bit messy, but that’s just being a Beaver Scout. All the Beavers and leaders loved hearing how Chris got into painting stones and spreading her kindness into the Prestwick community.

Chris Rutter said ‘what a great night I had painting stones with the Beavers, they did so well.’

Jacob Beaver Scout said ‘it was really fun painting the stones with the marker pens.’

Beaver Leader Lara said ‘Such a fabulous night with Chris decorating stones to put around Prestwick. All stones are Easter inspired 🐣 Lovely to see the beavers show off their impressive art skills!’

Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from the 14th Ayrshire Group (Prestwick) have always supported Chris with the hiding of her fabulous painted stones. So it will be even more special when the Beavers hide their own Easter Masterpieces for the Prestwick Community to find. Keep an eye out for them during the Easter weekend!

A massive thank you to Chris for giving up her time to engage with the 14th Ayrshire Beaver Scout Group. The young people have definitely learnt how an act of kindness can change someone’s day for the better. What an unsung hero Chris Rutter is for Prestwick!
