14th Ayrshire Beaver JOTT

18 boys from the 14th Ayrshire Beaver Group did the JOTT today from Blackburn Carpark in Ayr to Belleisle Park and back. Nearly 4 miles was walked over a 4 hour period.

We walked along the beach played in the park and then played games with fellow Beavers from other groups within the district. But more importantly before making our way back to Blackburn Carpark we had an ice cream.

We were blessed with a beautiful sunny day and what better way to enjoy it but a walk along the Ayrshire Coast.

14th Ayrshire Group Scout Camp

This weekend the 14th Ayrshire Scout Group were on our annual group camp at Dumfries House. With 40 children attending the camp you can imagine how excited they all were.

There were 12 first time Beaver campers and they did amazingly . With such activities like Den Building and rock Climbing to name but a few. All the Beavers tried every activity and game with a smile permanently on their faces. All their hard work and commitment to the camp was rewarded with their ‘My Adventure ‘ and ‘My Outdoor’ challenge badges a real achievement to be proud of.

Keith (a first time camper) said ‘the climbing wall was great fun’.Arjun another first time camper said he liked playing on the wobbly bridge. Ewan 3rd time camper loved sharing a room with the Cubs.

Then came the Cubs all cool and experienced. Nothing phased them. Trying new activities of archery and rock climbing and generally just having fun. Angus (a cub) said learning to use different hands in archery to get nearer the target was brilliant, I got so near the bullseye!

And finally came the Scouts. Their energy and skill level a cut above the rest. They helped to build the evening campfire and started off the campfire songs. They went for a night hike and then ate the camp out of s’mores. They were all fantastic ambassadors for the 14th Ayrshire Scout Group, guiding and supporting the younger sections.

Ben the Scout said I learnt a new skill this weekend from our instructor at Dumfries House. We learnt how to light fires using the flint and steel, steel wool and batteries – I will always remember this.

We had great support from our parent helpers with some just staying for the day and enjoying the fantastic facilities of Dumfries House and others staying over night. This camp would not be possible without the help and support of our parents and all the leaders look forward to sharing many more memories and adventures with them in the years to come.
