Take A Hike

Well done to the 18th Ayrshire Beavers, Cubs and Scout on completing the Virtual Kilt Walk in aid of Lapwing Lodge.

The sun was shining, the sunscreen was slapped on – what awesome day for a hike for a great cause!

The Beavers and Cubs walked from Blackburn car park to Greenan Castle where they built fires and toasted marshmallows before heading back to Blackburn car park!

The Scouts had a wonderful day hiking starting off at Stinchar Bridge up Shalloch On Minnoch with views over to Loch Doon and The Merrick. Sandwiches always taste better when you have worked for them! 11 Scouts and Molly the dog completed Shalloch On Minnoch. The climb at the end was a bit steep but everyone managed it.
A big thank you to all the leaders, parent helpers, sponsors and of course the wonderfully active young people, it would not be possible without you all.

The 18th Ayrshire Scout Group have enjoyed many happy days enjoying the facilities at Lapwing Lodge and it would be awful if it wasn’t there next year when visit are allowed again.

It’s not to late to donate to this wonderful Scouting facility https://virtual.thekiltwalk.co.uk/fundraising/ScotlandsVirtualKiltwalk2021-18thAyrshireScouts

Fantastic Campfires

AS restrictions continue to ease, the 100th Alloway Burns Explorer Scouts restarted their face to face meetings outside once again. All group meetings are operating in line with strict COVID19 secure guidelines to keep everyone safe.

The Explorer Scouts met at Cambusdoon, on Friday night. The challenge of the evenings meeting was for the first group to boil a tin of water, using only matches and a tin.

On completion of the task, they were to clear the fire area leaving nothing but memories.

All groups succeeded – mainly because we haven’t had any rain for so long.

We’re delighted to see our young people getting stuck back into Scouting challenges.

Scout-o-Rama

THE 14th Ayrshire Beavers, Cubs and Scout got back to face to face scouting on Friday evening. The first time since November last year.

With all socially distancing guidance followed you can see how much fun the young people had.

Cubs enjoyed a beautiful evening down Prestwick Beach.

The Scouts had their first walk from the Oval along Prestwick shore and the golf courses. After such a long time on Zoom it was great to get out together and plan for the rest of the term.

Seeing friendships develop again that were forged before lockdown is great – they greet each other like long lost friends and have easily slipped back into a familiar pattern,” said Adam Nutt, Beaver Scout leader.

These outdoors experiences, allows young people a chance to burn off steam, enjoy the great outdoors and to learn in a fun and safe environment – everything that Scouting should be about.

Growing Hope

2nd Ayrshire (Ballantrae) Scout Group would like to say a huge thank you to Morrisons in Stranraer and their wonderful Community Champion Denise Currie!

Each member of the 2nd Scout Group receive a packet of Morrisons Seeds of Hope (sunflower seeds) to grow at home, and a postcard for them to colour and send to a loved one that they have not been able to see.

Morrisons have been so very generous to our Scout Group not only did they give us these amazing seeds and postcards but we also received many bags of camp / hike snacks! Which we are all looking forward to enjoying now we are back to face to face Scouting.

When we reflect on the impact that this last year has had on our children such a gesture is somewhat overwhelming and very much appreciated!

We hope that the whole community will be able to watch the young peoples flowers grow, see their wonderful postcards, follow along with our well fed adventures and hopefully later in the year camps.
