Home 😢

We got back from Grampian nights last night I was very tired after the journey as we had to get 3 trains to get home as well as the woolly wagon that run us to the station , it was very funny cause when we climbed out the woolly wagon a bird pooped on Zoe’s head and we were all laughing , Iona managed to leave her rucksack on the train at girvan too . when I got in I played with my little brothers then went for a bath and went to bed early I didn’t wake up till 11 o’clock this morning my mum and dad let me lie in. It was quite sad 😭 this morning waking up and all my friends weren’t there . Grampian nights was a very fun experience I got to know the people in my group a lot better too !

Sad faces it’s home time ðŸ˜¢

That’s us on the train heading home from Grampian nights we have had an absolutely amazing week and have met a lot of new friends and learned new skills along the way that we will be able to transfer to our group . There was a few sad faces this morning and a few suggestions of staying for another week (I’m not going to deny I’m looking forward to a hot bath and my comfy bed 😬) which says it all really about the experience! We have seen our scouts grow immensely this week and really gel and come together as a unit I think as leaders we could not be prouder!

Mystery Recipe edited by the Over Lord!

  • It’s from the book ‘delias cakes’, most of the recipes in the book convert to gf well. Here’s it is:
  • 75g light brown soft sugar
  • 2 tbspn golden syrup
  • 1 tbspn black treacle (I replaced with more syrup)
  • 1 tbspn water
  • 1 tspn ground cinnamon
  • 1 tspn ground ginger
  • Pinch of cloves (I left out)
  • Fine grated zest 1/2 orange (I left out)
  • 95g block butter
  • 1/2 tspn bicarbonate of soda
  • 225g plan gf flour sifted
  • Put sugar, treacle, water, spices and zest together in saucepan and bring to boil stirring continuously
  • Remove from heat & stir in butter (cut into lumps) & bicarb of soda
  • Gradually stir in flour until you have a smooth manageable dough (add a little more flour if needed)
  • Lave the dough covered in a cool place for 30 mins (I put mine in the fridge)
  • Then roll to 3mm, cut on a lightly floured surface, place on trays and bake in the middle of the oven at 180 degrees for 10-15 mins
  • Leave to cool for a few mins before transferring to wire rack.
  • The recipe specifically says this well behaved dough can put up with quite a bit of punishment so it’s ideal for children to play with 🙂

The Knights challenge

The knights challenge is a very muddy and cold challenge. Today we did the knights challenge we had to do a practice one first to do this two people had to be blind folded and two people had no hands one person had to Carry a bucket of water, there was three teams the one with the least had the water poured over them after that we did the proper one we had to crawl under nets which was on the ground and jump in big muddy holes after that we got back on site and got hosed down before we had a shower.

Bubbles the fish

On Tuesday when we had a circus night I won a foam fish. Johnny was his unckle, Zoe was his Auntie, Rosie was his granny ( she did a great voice ) and I was his mum. Blue bubbles lasted for 24 hours and then he sufacated by the lack of water. It was devistating. This blog is in memory of blue bubbles the foam fish.

Bushcraft with Flossie!

As a leader, we get to help out with activities too, which also gives us a learning opportunity! I was allocated Bushcraft, run by ‘Flossie’, an old hand at this game! So I too have learnt many ways to light a fire, some traditional, many not so!! The Scouts that came through were taught all about knives and fire – the essentials of Scouting!
This also means that i am learning stuff to take home to teach our beavers cubs and Scouts that couldnt make it to camp this time!

Circus

Last night we all went to the circus in the camp. There was lots of fun activities including a sumo rink and pillow wars. Rosie and I went into the sumo rink and put on fat suits. When we fell over I couldn’t get up and was trying to get up for ages. On the pillow wars I went against Zoe. You sat on a pole and had a pillow fight ,sadly I lost. They were giving out free candy floss and popcorn. After about half an hour the candy floss ran out and we hadn’t had any yet. Rosie was really anoyed but when they finally gave her some she was ecstatic. We all had loads of fun and so far that was the best night.
