Ocean Bliss At the Annual Prestwick Beach Clean Organised by Prestwick Rotary Club

14th Ayrshire (Prestwick) Beavers, Cubs and Scouts came out in rather windy conditions on Saturday 23rd October to assist in the annual Rotary Club Beach Clean, Prestwick. With fabulous parents in tow, the young people’s strong work ethics and their efforts really paid off. The Beavers, Cubs and Scouts worked alongside loads of locals, volunteering to clean up Prestwick’s beach. They collected a great deal of rubbish.

We met at Prestwick Beach (near Kidzplay) to distribute the equipment (litter pickers and rubbish bags) which were very kindly donated to our Scout Group by South Ayrshire Council. The aim was to clean the grass verges and hedges along the shoreline along with the beach itself, to make it a nicer place for Prestwick residents, visitors and wildlife, there was a range of rubbish from bottles and cans to sweet wrappers and BBQs.

All sections of the Scout Group are working towards their staged Community Impact Activity Badge. The young people identified this important local event run by The Rotary Club of Prestwick to help clean up Prestwick’s’ beautiful coastline. The Scouts are making a plan about local issues they want to take action on, and how this will make peoples lives better.

Beaver Jarod said “I really like when we do the beach clean because our beach is the best beach in the world”

Izaak said (Cubs) “We headed down to the beach clean early because I wanted to get as much rubbish as we could so our beach stays nice.”

Scout Kaleb said ‘Fiona organises all our Scout group to help with the beach clean every year and this year there wasn’t as much rubbish as previous years which is brilliant.”

Thanks to everyone who turned up for Prestwick’s Beach Clean especially The Rotary Club Of Prestwick for organising this annual event and South Ayrshire Council for their support and supplying the litter pickers and plastic bags.

Busy Busy Busy……

Busy Beavers

At 18th Ayrshire (St Columba) we certainly have been busy Beavers! Based on a program which the Beavers themselves helped put together before the Summer holidays we have so far held our own mini Olympics, complete with medals, taken part in a rugby training night, and enjoyed a “walk on the wild side”, along with the Cubs and their families, on a 3 hour hike over the Carrick hills.

Busy Cubs and Scouts

One special highlight was our recent Group campfire down at Ayr beach along with the Cubs and Scouts, organised to say thank you to a number of our retiring Leaders & helpers. It was a fabulous night with fun & games, songs, and burgers.

Exciting Plans

And there is lots more fun and excitement to come, with a sleepover to Nether Auchendrane and a trip to a forest school coming soon!
